Zanzibar, part of Tanzania, is an Indian Ocean archipelago near the East African coast, consisting of small islands and two major ones: Unguja (commonly referred to as 'Zanzibar') and Pemba Island. It stands as East Africa's top beach destination, offering idyllic tropical beaches, lush plantations, a rich history, and captivating culture. Besides the historic Stone Town's maze-like streets, Zanzibar is famous for its beautiful palm-fringed beaches and pristine coral reefs.

Language, culture & customs

The primary language spoken in Zanzibar is Swahili. English is also commonly used and comprehended. The majority of Zanzibar's population practices Islam, with mosques present in every town and village on Zanzibar Island. Travelers exploring Stone Town will experience the enchanting call to prayer from the minarets by muezzins, particularly during the evening session at sunset. Additionally, there are smaller communities of Christians and Hindus on the island. When in town, both men and women should have their shoulders and knees covered.
